CASE STUDY
Utilities
Our client is a multinational power distribution corporation specializing in natural gas, electricity, and energy utilities. They urgently needed to process a substantial 11,000 kilometers of LiDAR data for transmission corridor inspections. Consequently, they chose Mindtrace’s Brain-Sense™ technology to efficiently execute the project. This technology enabled them to promptly classify, vectorize, and analyze their power distribution assets, resulting in rapid data-to-insight transformation.
Challenges
- 3 month project completion deadline
- Numerous customized reports were required
- Various data collection methods were employed
Step 1 - Supporting Data Collection
Mindtrace collaborated closely with the client to ensure sufficient data collection from three sources (helicopters, drones, and airplanes) for our AI Brains to comprehensively analyze powerline data.
Classification
After collecting data, our Classification Brain successfully classifies the specified 12 categories, readying the data for vectorization. These classifications include: Ground, Buildings, Noise, Different Vegetation Heights, Mainline and Secondary Line Towers and Wires.
Vectorization
After data classification, Mindtrace's Detection Brain rapidly vectorizes the LiDAR data, producing 2D and 3D vectors of power line assets within hours.
Analytics
After vectorization, our Analytics Brain instantly generated nine reports for additional client insights. These reports encompass standard Vegetation Management and Asset Coordinate Reports, as well as custom reports for wire-to-ground distance (< 6M), insufficient vertical distance between the nearest phase wire, and insufficient vertical distance between wires and roads or non-electric railways (7M).
Outcome
Mindtrace’s Brain-Sense™ AI technology empowered our client to swiftly classify and vectorize an expansive 11,000-kilometer powerline LiDAR dataset. Within a remarkably concise timeframe of fewer than three months, generating tailored defect reports, highlighting the impressive capabilities of Mindtrace’s AI systems.
